The department of English, one of the largest departments in the college, was established along with the inception of the college in 2012. The department offers a three- year English main degree programme with complementary courses Politics and Social and Cultural History of Britain, as well as common courses for other undergraduate streams, and a post graduate course in English Language and Literature which was introduced in the year 2021.
The department has been a hub of teaching - learning activity attracting a cross section of students and encouraging their interest not only in the field of language, but in literature and film studies as well. The well qualified teachers of the department provide a learner- centered education, ensuring the active participation of students in the process, enabling the young women to master the communication skills in English language, to think beyond the curriculum inculcating compassion, love and other societal values, and making them competent in the subject. Various programmes like seminars, discussions, debates, book reviews, and other creative and cultural programmes are conducted by the department to get more exposure in the subject and to be competent in English language. A film fest is a highlighted event of the department attracting the presence of students from various departments.
Our department is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, evident in their involvement in programs such as Women's Studies, Film Studies, Cultural Studies and Dalit Studies etc. Our graduates are well prepared for professional and graduate study and for lifelong learning.
