The Department of Sociology was established in 2015. It is one of the undergraduate departments, dedicated to providing a comprehensive and rigorous education in sociology. The department offers a three-year undergraduate program where students can major in Sociology. This program is designed to give students a thorough understanding of sociological theories, methods, and their applications. In addition to the major courses in Sociology, students are required to take complementary courses in Political Science and Psychology. These complementary courses are designed to provide a broader perspective and enhance the interdisciplinary understanding of social phenomena. The Department of Sociology also offers common courses that are available to students from other undergraduate streams. These courses aim to impart fundamental sociological knowledge and critical thinking skills that are essential for a well-rounded education.
Our department is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, evident in their involvement in programs such as Women's Studies, Social Anthropology, research methodology, Environment and Society, Population Studies, Life Skill education etc. The Sociology Department envisions a society where diverse social structures, cultures, and institutions are understood, valued, and engaged to foster equity, justice, and positive social change.
